Time for a very silly post. I saw a challenge on another blog where you post each day in April (except Sundays) with a post based on the next letter of the alphabet. I considered joining in and choosing my favourite Wingspan birds but didn’t actually want an entire 26 posts on individual cards. I did however sit down and choose them – so here is my A to Z of favourite birds in Wingspan (sadly missing X and Q – not sure why Q is missing as there must be a quail in there somewhere. I may have cheated for U).
A is for Abbott’s Booby, my favourite are the blue-footed ones but they aren’t yet in the game and they don’t start with A B is for Blackbird, a regular musical visitor to my garden C is for Chiffchaff, the sign that summer is near D is for Dunnock, often seen dashing in and out of bushes E is for European Robin, brave and beautiful F is for Frogmouth, such an interesting look G is for Great Tit, another garden regular H is for House Sparrow, chatterboxes that are sadly in decline I is for Inca Dove, I love my local collared doves and woodpigeons with their gentle calls – I’m sure this one is similar J is for Jay, a stunning corvid K is for Kingfisher, black bill for a boy, orange lower beak for a girl L is for Little Penguin, I love all penguins although my favourite is actually the Adélie M is for Mute Swan, my local pair are currently nesting N is for Northern Gannet, I always assumed these were black until I visited a seabird sanctuary O is for Osprey, specialised to hunt fish P is for Peregrine Falcon, they nest at the local university and I enjoy watching them on the livestream R is for Rainbow Lorikeet, when we went to Edinburgh Zoo one preened my hair S is for Starling, sparkling in the sunlight T is for Trumpeter Swan, a noisier cousin of the Mute U is for emU, I know I cheated… V is for Vulture, the refuse collectors of the bird world W is for Woodcock, with their funky moves Y is for Yellowhammer, bright yellow like its name Z is for Zebra Finch, common pet unlike a zebra
Love the Blue footed Booby too. Is he coming out in a series do you know?
